Gov. Charlie Christ has promoted the Cover Florida health plan to Floridians. This is a great opportunity for those needing health insurance, specifically low cost health insurance, that otherwise could not obtain health insurance, to get it. The challenge is that there are 3.7 million uninsured Florida residents that are not aware of the many options that they could have over and above not knowing about Cover Florida. I do not think that the news has done a good job of promoting this or explaining the options.
At the website http://www.coverfloridaplus.com/, http://www.covermyfloridakids.com/, http://www.ineedhealthinsuranceinfl.com/ there are manyopportunities for Floridians to shop for low cost, affordable health insurance. Aetna, Avalon, Assurant, Cigna, BC/BS, HumanaOne, Bankers Health Plans, United HealthOne (formerly GoldenRule). These are cheaper than group health insurance and as good if not better in most cases.
Cover Florida should only be a last resort if you cannotobtain quality coverage at an affordable price through an individual major medical plan. Cover Florida is guaranteed issue if you meet the requirements, but most can qualify for great coverage at low prices. It costs you nothing to shop and apply online with the coverage you think suits you or your family best.
